On March 20, China’s second domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, successfully floated out at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), marking its full transition into the pier-side commissioning phase.

Following the successful float-out, the cruise ship entered a new stage of construction and outfitting as it advances toward sea trials scheduled for mid-year and final delivery before the end of the year.

As the second large cruise ship built in China, Adora Flora City represents another major breakthrough for the country’s cruise shipbuilding industry. The project demonstrates China’s continued progress from successfully delivering a single large cruise vessel to establishing a comprehensive and sustainable cruise shipbuilding system.

Compared with the first domestically built large cruise ship, the construction of Adora Flora City has benefited from significant improvements in design integration, production efficiency, project management and supply chain coordination, highlighting the growing maturity of China’s independent cruise shipbuilding capabilities.

The successful float-out of this “city at sea” not only showcases the strength of China’s advanced manufacturing sector but also reflects the accelerating development of the nation’s high-end shipbuilding industry. As the cruise ship emerges from the dock, it stands as a new symbol of China’s determination and capability to compete in one of the most sophisticated segments of the global maritime market.
