The first Made-in-China large cruise ship built by SWS, the subsidiary of CSSC, successfully realized the first main generator operation on July 1st, 2022.

The main generator is the core equipment of the large cruise ship and the main power supply of the ship's power distribution system and propulsion system. The main generator operation marks the machinery and systematic completion of the related 18 fluid systems and more than 300 auxiliary equipment, and also marks the full entry of the cruise ship construction from the outfitting and installation stage to the equipment function commissioning stage. It can be seen as the "heart" of the large cruise ship began to beat, and began to provide power for other equipment systems of the whole ship.

The large cruise ship is equipped with a total of 5 high-power generators. Based on the need for safe return to port, they are separately arranged at the bow and stern of the ship. The total power of the large cruise ship's entire power system reaches 62.4 MW, which is equivalent to the total power distribution of 6,000 households or the installed capacity of a small and medium-sized hydropower station in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Compared with ordinary civil ships, the main generator of the large cruise ship has made a great leap in both number and power, in order to meet the needs of all passengers in the living and leisure areas across up to 16 stories on board and the ship’s sailing. It likes that the power system of an ordinary civil ship is just supply for a ship, while the cruise power system drives a mobile city at sea.

The main generator in operation this time is a MAN-type generator with an output of 9.6 MW and a weight of 135 tons.To drive such a huge set of main generator, the work complexity far exceeds the conventional ship project, which involves more than 11,000 pipes, more than 4,000 cables, and nearly 200 sets of equipment and accessories.
