On July 23, SWS's latest ammonia fuel powered 210,000 dwt bulk carrier successfully obtained the Approval in Principle (AIP) issued by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The ship type is independently developed and designed by SWS, its M/E adopts MAN Ammonia model and it is equipped with the corresponding ammonia fuel storage and supply system.

According to the target set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the global shipping industry's annual greenhouse gas emissions will decrease by more than 50% by 2050 compared that of 2008, and in the context of "carbon peak and neutrality targets”, this goal can only be achieved through the R&D of innovative technologies, especially the adoption of new marine alternative fuels. As a zero-carbon energy source, ammonia fuel can meet the more stringent greenhouse gas emissions requirements and make ships meet the emission reduction requirements, which is one of the most promising alternative fuels of the shipping industry for decarbonization in the future

SWS actively responded to the market demand and the relevant international environmental protection regulations, widely solicited the opinions of the ship owners, united power equipment manufacturers to make a series of optimization for the ship line type, overall layout, hull structure, fuel tank and equipment configuration, and carried out Hazard Identification (HAZID) to ensure the use of ammonia fuel.

SWS closely followed the new trends and new technologies of the industry, and paid great attention to the development and design of green ships. The launch of the ship type provided shipping enterprises with new environmental protection solutions for zero-carbon transportation.
