SWS & SCH signed building contract of 16,000 TEU Container Ship and delivered 9,400 TEU Container Ship. Report form our Correspondent: China has entered into the world leading group in development, design and construction of ultra large Container Ships. At the end of July, as a large scale shipyard which is held by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS)--the subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (SCH) delivered a 9,400 TEU Container Ship to Bernhard Schulte. So far, it is the first ultra large 9,000 TEU-class Container Ship built in Shanghai. At the beginning of August, the agreement of building 3 the 7th generation 16,000 TEU Container Ships between SCH and CSSC (HK) Shipping Chartering Co. was declared in effect. It was the first time that China undertook the building of 16,000 TEU Container Ships, which broke up the monopoly of Korean Shipyard in this field, as well as it indicated China has entered into the world leading group in building of Ultra large Container Ships. Up to now, the 16,000 TEU is the top size Container ship which has been undertaken in domestic, on which there are 160 slots more than the current largest Container ships. The overall length of the vessel is 399m which creates the new record of the longest vessel built in China. The breadth of the vessel is 54m, and the area of its main deck is as large as four times of one standard football field. The depth of the vessel is 30.2m, and the overhead clearance is 68m which equals to the heights of the 23- storey building. Its designed draft is 14.5m with 22.2 knots service speed. The container-carrying capacity is 16,189 TEU including 1,400 reefer containers. This vessel is jointly developed and designed by SWS and MARIC. The two of first three vessels are to be built in SCH, one of them is to be built in SWS. According to the plan, the first one will be delivered in September of 2015. Adopting the optimized linear, the vessel is equipped with twisted rudder with rudder ball and high-efficiency propeller. The daily fuel oil consumption is 30% lower than other competitive products which are currently in operation. To meet the requirement of low load operation, the Main engine adopts EGB part load. Additionally, to reduce the fuel oil consumption in actual running while loading light containers, the shallow draft has been linear optimized. The exhaust emission complies with IMO Tier II requirement, the Lashing Bridge System complies with CSS Code regulation which will be in effect in 2015, as well as the Fatigue Strength meets the BV WHISP2 Regulation. Whether a high or low cubic container, it can be mixed and unordered loaded in hold, as well as the hatches can be lift out regardless of order that keeps the flexibility of loading and unloading containers to a maximum. Besides that, the containers as large as 45-feet with extra-heavy and wide can be loaded at the first tier, which improves the flexibility of loading containers. The design of bridge complies with the one-man bridge operation rule. Found in 2007, as the most competitive manufacturer of ultra large container ships in China, SCH has successfully delivered total number of over 30 container ships with various types including 9,400 TEU, 8,530 TEU, 5,100 TEU, 4,700 TEU, 4,600 TEU and etc. While the contract of 1,6000TEU was in effect, SCH made a significant step for creating the building center for container ships in China, even in the World. As the leading force of domestic shipyards, SWS received the 36% stock ownership of SCH in the first half of this year. The powerful alliance of SCH and SWS will accelerate the development of restructuring and innovation, and enhance the operation quality of enterprises and the core competitiveness of them. Recently, the domestic shipbuilding industry has entered into an accelerating adjustment period. To respond to the marketing challenge and improve the anti-risk ability, SWS has actively researched in industrial structure adjustment and restructuring development. Through in-depth analysis of industry market, national economic structure and the relevant factors of the world economic, SWS proposed “the three specialties”, which are to consider whether the industrial structure of our company can match with the industry market, whether the R&D of new products can lead the market, and whether the new explored business can be competitive in contiguous markets or parallel markets. By adopting a series of restructuring strategies, the company attempts to further expand its offshore engineering business, further enrich the products to realize diversification development. The company should make great effort to take advantages at the new round of accelerating adjustment and restructuring upgrading for shipbuilding industry.
