On Oct.8, the keel laying ceremony of the JU-2000E which has ever been built in Shanghai, was held in SWS No.2 Drydock. At 10 a.m., with the 800-ton gantry crane lifting up the over 400-ton double bottom block and releasing it in position smoothly, that marks the unit enters into in dry dock construction stage. Keel laying of JU-2000E, which symbolizes SWS not only makes a significant step for industrial structure & products upgrading, well-developing shipbuilding, diversified development, but also paves the way for creating an offshore design, development, construction base in Shanghai.
JU-2000E which is the first of the two jack ups with three option orders, has been building for Norwegian company, Prospector Offshore Drilling (POD). It is another high-tech high-value landmark offshore engineering product after “HAI YANG SHI YOU 981”—the 6th generation semi-submersible drill rig we delivered.
The unit with JU2000E design will be capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet and drilling into a depth of 35,000 feet. Classed by ABS, it will also have the capacity to accommodate 140 people.
Since last year, SWS has signed totally 3 JU-2000E jack ups and 3 in options contracts with POD and CPOE by its high reputation and advanced technology, which realize the company strategy of been continuous building offshore products in series. Now, SWS focuses on development, design and construction the drill rigs and production units such as Jack-up, semi-submersible, drillship, TLP, SPAR, FPSO, LNG-FPSO and FPDSO. It is anticipated that SWS has good fortune in offshore engineering field during the next national five-year plan.
