SWS signed newbuild contracts of 22000 TEU Container Vessels

On Sept. 19, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS), Hudong –Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co.,Ltd (H&Z), China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd (CSTC) jointly signed thenewbuild contract of Nine (9) 22000 TEU Container Vessels with CMA-CGM in Marseille, France. The contract signing refreshed the record of orders undertaking for world largest container vessels and further solidified the company as the world ultra large container vessels building center.

Vice President of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), Mr. Nan Daqing attended and witnessed the Contract Signing Ceremony. President of SWS, Mr. Sheng Jigang, Vice President of H&Z, Mr. Chi Benbing, Vice President of CSTC, Mr. Lin Feng and CEO of CMA-CGM, Mr. Rodolphe Saadé signed the contract on behalf of each party. After successfully delivery of three(3) 18000 TEU Container Vessels project, SWS joined hands with CMA-CGM again on the construction of this 22000 TEU Container Vessels which not only enriched our production line but also enhanced our comprehensive shipbuilding strength and international influence.

The deadweight capacity of this contracted 22000 TEU Container Vessel is almost 220 thousand Tonnages per vessel, and its loading capacity is 22000 TEU, which is the biggest loading capacity all over the world. Its emission standard meets the requirement of emission in the strictest restricted area and its design energy efficiency meets EEDI Phase III. The overall linear and structure were all further optimized, the layout and system of large size refrigerate containers was perfected to significantly reduce the operating costs of single container. This vessel remains at the forefront of comprehensive power, complex index, average containers index, consumption index, and cargo capacity index. The comprehensive performance was regarded as best vessel that guaranteed to win this bid.

Even in rigorous market environment, SWS has fully taken its brand advantages, with its leading position on construction and delivery of large size Bulk Carriers, Oil Tankers and Container Vessels for many years, focused the operation policy of “downsize scale and get strong to break the crisis, adhere to the bottom line and seize the orders, make continuous improvement to win benefit, break the high-end to seek for development”, closely followed the market trend and caught the opportunities.  Since 2017, SWS has got the breakthrough on seizing the orders of high-tech, high-value products that ensured the company to steady development and boosted the staff’s morale.

It is reported that this extra large container vessels project has been the biggest order in world so far. By successfully undertaken the project, it not only refreshed company order undertaking record of container vessel, but also demonstrated that our comprehensive competitiveness was approved again by the world top class shipowners under the proper leadership of CSSC and joint cooperation with associate companies in design and construction field, which was significant to company to take part in the competition of high-value project.
