At the beginning of Chinese New Year, depending on the powerful R&D capability in green shipbuilding, SWS received another a series of orders following the 5 plus 3 orders for 180,000 DWT Capesize Bulk Carriers received in January. On Feb.4th, SWS signed construction contract for the 3 plus 2 318,000 DWT VLCC with China Merchants Energy shipping (CNES). The singing of this series of orders marks SWS has had a nice beginning of the implement of the new development strategy. It is also a successful attempt for CSSC to carry out the integration development of the industry chain of enterprises directly controlled by the central government, which provided a good sample for reference to other enterprises.
The Chairman of CSSC, Mr. Hu Wenming and the CEO of China Merchants Group, Mr. Li Jianhong attended the signing Ceremony and delivered the speeches respectively. Mr. Hu Wenming pointed out that under the guidance of "To develop marine economy and construct marine power" which was established in the 18th CCP Congress, the signing of this contract for VLCC construction had a great significance for the cooperation between China leading Energy shipping fleet and China leading manufacturing enterprise for offshore equipments construction and shipbuilding. It is not only a realistic move for both parties to implement the national strategy of "to construct marine power", but also a concrete action to positively respond to the call on the integration development of the industry chain of central controlled enterprises by SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission), which contributes to ensure the security of energy transportation, and to promote the adjustment of shipping marketing competition pattern.
Mr. Li Jianhong emphasized that signing the contract under current complicated economic situation reflected the multi-trust and full confidence of both sides in overcoming difficulties, which contributes to improve the fleet structure and promote the green low-carbon development of China Merchants Group. In his speech, he highly praised SWS for her excellent construction and design technology of VLCC, and expected to continue strengthening cooperation with CSSC and SWS in the future.
It is reported that this series of VLCCs are the latest generation VLCCs optimized and designed by SWS and MARIC, which are the typical environment friendly vessels with energy efficiency. The highlights of the upgrade included EEDI which is over 20% lower than the baseline of MARPOL regulation, and fuel oil consumption per day which is over 20% lower than the previous ones as well as the latest generation M/E and ballast water treatment system being installed.
