The First Jack-Up Drilling Rig was Named and Delivered in SWS Offshore Base
The first-built Jack-Up Drilling Rig since Shanghai was opened as a commercial port, or even since CSSC was founded, was named and delivered in SWS Offshore base on May 28th. This Jack-up is another high-end offshore product SWS has developed after 300K DWT FPSO (referred as Haiyangshiyou 117) and 3000 meters Deepwater Semi-Submersible Drilling Rig (referred as Haiyangshiyou 981).
The JU2000E Jack-up Drilling Rig is designed and built for a Norwegian ship owner. The Jack-up is 70.36 m long, 76.00 m wide, and 9.45 m deep. Its designed draft is 6.40 m. The deck area is equivalent to 13 standard basketball courts and its multi-level living quarters can accommodate 140 persons. The Jack-up is able to operate at water depth of 400 ft, and has the drilling depth of 35,000 ft. In addition, SWS was responsible for the construction of spud cans, elevating device, triangular truss work legs, and cantilever. It was also the first time Shanghai has constructed such a special steel structure,showing the strong construction technology and capabilities SWS possess. It is noticed that the Jack-up has been currently leased by France TOTAL company,and will be shipped and served in the UK’s North Sea Oil Field area in early June.
Currently, SWS is holding more than 10 Jack-up orders including mainstream types such as JU2000E, CJ46, CJ50 etc, forming a situation of continuous production. This marks the serialization and branding of CSSC offshore products have entered a new era, showing that Shanghai has moved one step forward towards global offshore products centre.
Implementing the national standardization research of ‘Jack-up Drilling Rig Standardization Modeling Project’ is another highlight feature of this project. Under the guidance of national standardization management committee, SWS together with China Shipbuilding Industry Comprehensive Research Institute and China Shipbuilding Industry 708 Research Institute (MARIC) undertook the work of standards upgrading by taking this Jack-up Rig as an example. Great achievements have been accomplished through categorizing domestic and foreign standards, establishing standard system of jack-up drilling rig, collecting internal and external data, declaring national and industrial standards and implementing the supporting researches. In 2013, the system establishment has been completed and the complex entity been initiated.
In 2013, the 4-level standards system framework consisting 52 top-level, broad heading level, mid-level and minor-level was established through a large amount of analysis and research. The framework confirms that 1,175 items were enlisted into the detailed standard system statement. The new-added standards include: 29 items from national standard (GB), 44 items from shipping industrial standard (CB), 197 SWS standard (Q/SWS or QH/SWS), and there are 286 items from international standard or advanced overseas standard to be analyzed and transformed.
The completed system successfully passed the industrial internal appraisal in early December 2013 and it was unanimously praised by the experts. They discussed and concluded that the system targets at features of Jack-up, adopting comprehensive standardization principle, reflecting the concept that typical modules of Jack-up being a standard complex, combing large modules with small ones. Based on the analysis of the adaptability of internal and external resources, the system was built under business modules; therefore, the system is regarded fairly advanced and reasonable. Furthermore, it provides support for the designing of Jack-up and technical assistance for effective standard construction.
Acquiring those achievements not only filled the gap of our nation in this area, but also enhanced international competitive force in offshore field. This would exert a positive, modeling chain effect; hence it would largely promote the healthy development of China’s offshore products.
As a leading power in China’s shipbuilding industry, and a backbone force in China’s offshore products research and production, SWS insists on transformation development strategy, seeing offshore products, especially cutting edge offshore rig as a key breakthrough, relying on the previous construction experience of the first deepwater semi-submersible drilling rigs platform (referred as Haiyangshiyou 981), taking competitive advantages of ‘detailed plan, high starting point, firm foundation’. As a result, SWS decidedly entered Jack-up market and joined the family of building high-end Jack-up. At present, the order amount of offshore products covers 30% of overall holding order amount. Three more platforms are expected to be delivered and offshore business would achieve 25% of SWS’ annual output.
Confronting the difficulties, SWS is keeping forward in offshore field and preparing to rise abruptly on its accumulated strength. She adopts the new operating strategy of “industrial restructuring, products upgrading, further enhancing shipping, implementing diversified development”. It is our main concern to develop offshore engineering bigger and stronger, taking full steps to enter high-end mainstream international market, striving to change from “technology following” to “technology leading”, from the scale expansion to quality improvement, from the factors of support to innovation driven, leading a path of “persist in innovation, pursuit of quality, seize offshore highland, realize transformation and upgrading”, starting a new upsurge in the construction of offshore equipments.
The first Jack-up Drilling Rig SWS built for China National Petroleum Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd (CPOE) has come to the final phase of testing and commissioning at SWS Offshore base and it will be delivered soon. In the second half of this year, SWS would delivery another Jack-up Drilling Rig; meanwhile, 6 more rigs are under construction at different stages. SWS has entered the fast track of establishing serialization and branding of Jack-up Drilling Rig field. Offshore transformation has achieved great results.
When offshore achieved a series of breakthroughs, merchant vessels in SWS also keep bringing good news. It is reported that by the end of May 28th, the company has completed the half of its annual production tasks one month ahead of the schedule. The total completion of SWS maintains No.1 in China’s shipbuilding enterprises.
